MailManager vs SaneBox

We make MailManager, so weigh this page with that in mind. Short version: SaneBox files your incoming mail by how important it is, and MailManager sorts it by what it's about, into categories that show up as Gmail labels or Outlook folders. Every SaneBox price and feature below links to its source and was checked on October 12, 2026.

TL;DR

How they sort, in plain language

SaneBox says it “uses sophisticated algorithms and machine learning to automatically sort your incoming emails into different folders based on their importance” (SaneBox FAQ). Important mail stays in your inbox. The rest goes to SaneLater, newsletters can go to SaneNews, and a sender you drop into SaneBlackHole never reaches you again. SaneBox says your inbox “gets smarter over time, learning exactly where to file your messages,” and you train it by moving mail between folders (SaneBox features).

MailManager answers a different question: not “is this important?” but “what is this?” Its AI reads the sender, subject and a short excerpt, then files each email into one of your categories, like Receipts & Bills, Newsletters & Promotions or Important / Action Needed. On a paid plan you add your own, such as “Kids' school” or “Client invoices.” New mail is sorted as it arrives, and older mail can be sorted in batches with bulk credits.

One credit sorts one email with AI. Live credits cover new mail as it arrives, and bulk credits sort mail that's already in your mailbox. If you need more bulk credits, the web dashboard sells one-time packs: 500 for $3, 2,000 for $5 or 5,000 for $8.

Where MailManager wins

1. Categories by topic, in your words

SaneBox decides how important an email is. MailManager decides what it is. If you want every school email in one folder and every contractor invoice in another, that's a topic question, and on a paid plan you can describe each category in plain English and let the AI do the filing. The free plan sorts into five ready-made categories, so you can see how it handles your real mail before you pay.

2. A free plan that keeps sorting

SaneBox is a 7-day trial and then a paid plan (pricing, checked 2026-10-12). MailManager's free plan includes 25 live credits every month for new mail plus 50 bulk credits for older mail, with no card. That's small on purpose: it's enough to see whether it works on your inbox, but not enough to run a busy inbox for free.

3. Lower prices on monthly billing

MailManager's top plan is $8 a month. SaneBox's cheapest plan is $9.49 a month billed monthly. Paid up front, SaneBox gets cheaper: Snack is $5.42 a month billed yearly and $4.54 a month billed every two years (pricing, checked 2026-10-12). That's more than our $2 and $4 plans and less than our $8 plan.

4. Clearing a backlog into categories

SaneBox's Deep Clean is built to purge: “purge thousands of unneeded emails in five minutes or less” (SaneBox features). MailManager sorts the backlog into your categories instead of deleting it. Each email the AI sorts uses one bulk credit, so how much you can clear depends on your plan: 50 emails on the free plan, 150 to 2,000 a month on paid plans, or more with one-time packs.

The AI will get some emails wrong. No sorter is perfect, ours included. When an email lands in the wrong place, correct its category in your processing history, and MailManager learns from it for your account. For senders that should always go to the same place, you can also add a rule. Rules run before the AI and never use credits.

Where SaneBox wins

1. More email providers and more accounts

SaneBox works with Gmail, Microsoft 365, Apple iCloud, Yahoo Mail, Fastmail and any IMAP, Exchange or ActiveSync server (SaneBox FAQ), and its plans cover 1, 2 or 4 accounts (pricing). MailManager supports Gmail and Microsoft accounts only, and each MailManager account sorts one mailbox.

2. Reminders, snooze and the digest

SaneBox reminds you when someone hasn't replied, snoozes email until you're ready, and sends a Daily Digest of unimportant mail you haven't opened (homepage). On the Snack and Lunch plans, Reminders and Custom Snooze count toward the features you pick (pricing). MailManager doesn't do any of that. It only sorts.

3. Set it and forget it

SaneBox says setup takes “less than 5 minutes” and that there's “Nothing to download. No manual setup” (homepage). If you don't want to think about categories at all and just want the unimportant mail out of the way, its approach asks less of you.

4. A long track record

SaneBox says it has been “trusted by professionals for more than a decade” (SaneBox features). MailManager is a much younger product.

FAQ

Is MailManager cheaper than SaneBox?

On monthly billing, yes. MailManager has a free plan, and its paid plans are $2, $4 or $8 a month. SaneBox starts at $9.49 a month billed monthly, after a 7-day free trial. Paid every two years, SaneBox Snack works out to $4.54 a month (pricing, checked 2026-10-12). The two charge for different things: SaneBox by email accounts and features, MailManager by each email its AI sorts.

Does SaneBox have a free plan?

No. SaneBox has a 7-day free trial with all features for up to 4 email accounts, then a paid plan (pricing, checked 2026-10-12). MailManager has a free plan with no card: 25 live credits every month, 50 bulk credits once, and five ready-made categories.

Does SaneBox work with Outlook?

Yes. SaneBox lists Gmail, Microsoft 365, Apple iCloud, Yahoo Mail and Fastmail, plus any IMAP, Microsoft Exchange or ActiveSync server (SaneBox FAQ, checked 2026-10-12). MailManager works with Gmail and Microsoft accounts, including Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live and Microsoft 365.

Do I have to train MailManager first?

No. The AI sorts each email your rules don't catch by reading its sender, subject and a short excerpt against your category names and descriptions, so it works from the first email. When it gets one wrong, correct the category in your processing history and it learns from that correction for your account.

Can I run MailManager alongside SaneBox?

Both work through the folders or labels in your existing mailbox, so it's possible, but we haven't tested them together on one mailbox. Both move mail out of the inbox, so most people pick one.
